AN UNIVITED GUEST
Satan appears on the scene through the use of the body of a serpent. (A footnote: It has been discovered that at one time snakes had legs and walked upright!) He didn’t just suddenly appear on the earth, he had been on the earth and caused such rebellion and destruction that God removed Himself from the earth. When God did, everything went black and void of any light, aka, the Ice Age!
Satan’s name means “the Opponent; the hater; the accuser; adversary; enemy; one who resists, obstructs, and hinders whatever is good.” When God created him he was an Archangel with rank in Heaven. He was created absolutely beautiful. The Book of Ezekiel describes him after God created him:
“Thus says the Lord God: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13) You were in Eden, the Garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius,
topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14) “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the Holy Mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15) You were perfect in your
ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.” Ezekiel 28:12-15
All of these beautiful stones were his covering, and he was to reflect God’s Glory in the Earth. When Light hits these jewels they reflect the most beautiful, brilliant, and vivid colors imaginable. The iniquity he allowed to develop in his heart was revealed and exposed, it was pride and self-centeredness.
“How you are fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13) For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into
Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the Mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; 14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will
be like the Most High.’ 15) Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.” 16) “Those who see you will gaze at you, and consider you, saying: ‘Is this the man (the
spirit-being who was given authority by God) who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, 17) Who made the world as a wilderness and destroyed its cities, who did not open the house
of his prisoners?’” Isaiah 14:12-17
Lucifer’s heart became lifted up in pride over his beauty, as he set his will against the will of God. He forgot that he was beautiful because of God and His Glory, not himself! He wanted to be like God, or better put – he wanted God’s Throne so that he could be worshipped. Because his heart was no longer in agreement with God’s will, he had to go! He had become God’s adversary. It was his choice.
(Footnote: Life is choice-driven. You are free to make any choice you choose, but you cannot alter or change the consequences that come with the choices you make – Dr. I.V. Hilliard)
God describes the corruption that followed Lucifer’s heart change:
“By the abundance of your trading (possessions and subjects; traffic, business, and commerce) you became filled with violence (wrong; injustice; to make bare; no covering; and to imagine
wrongfully) within, and you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the Mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones. 17) “Your
heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you. 18) “You
defiled (broke your word) your sanctuaries (consecration and your dedication) By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst;
It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all who saw you.” Ezekiel 28:16-18
When God threw Lucifer out of Heaven, he plunged into the darkness and chaos he had caused to come upon the earth. The earth was created for habitation, but became totally out of order. Genesis 1:1-2 describes the scene,
“In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. 2 The Earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.”
“Was without form and void” are the Hebrew words that mean to become totally chaotic and out of its original order. Verse 1 indicates that the earth was created perfectly. Verse 2 indicates that something major happened that caused what God created perfect to become chaotic and out of order. It was the rebellion of Lucifer. When he was thrown out by God, his name changed to Satan. In his rebellion, he convinced 1/3rd of the angels to follow him in it. These fallen angels are now known as evil spirits. They all hate mankind.
Back To The Garden
After God had given this Authority to Adam, Satan, the deceiver, convinced a serpent to allow him to use his body for the express purpose of getting the man and woman to break their Covenant with God through disobedience, pride, and breaking their word.
In chapter 3 of Genesis, Satan told Eve a lie and suggested to her that she and Adam could have more, but God was holding out on them. This was to get them to judge God wrongfully by believing his lies and not trust Him or what He says.
“Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5) For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6) So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her
husband with her, and he ate. 7) Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”
When Adam ate of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, both their eyes were opened, but not to something greater that God was holding from them, but to the reality that what God said was true and their disobedience to Him had released something that absolutely cut them off from their Life-Source…..God! This fruit released something diabolic called Sin. It was so strong against them that it changed their very DNA to Sin. Adam and Eve became sinners, for they had transgressed the Word of God and now have a nature and image that’s void of God. This change is forever!
This is what Satan was banking on, because all the authority in the earth has now been hand-delivered to him from Adam. Now the apple of God’s eye are under Satan’s oppressive thumb. But what Satan didn’t understand was that God, in His Foreknowledge and Infinite Wisdom, already knew that this would happen and had made provisions for mankind to be redeemed. Note the following,
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed (a Kinsman Redeemer); He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Satan knew from this statement that a man was coming into the earth that would have the Power to crush his head and take back what he had gotten from Adam and Eve. The puzzling thing about this is if every person born into the earth is a sinner, this Redeemer would have to be sinless….how could this happen?
